lazy-lady living :: sharing holistic homesteading and soulful permaculture since 2012

sound familiar?

You dream of being a HOMESTEADER

You dream of living simply and in tune with the rhythms of the earth and her creatures and you want care of land and air and water to take its proper place in the forefront of your life, to become your priority, your security, your offering in these troubling times.

YES YOU DREAM OF WHOLENESS

You want to get connected to your food, its production, preparation, and its sharing. You dream of village harmony, rhythm, and connection. You crave traditional wisdom, the real thing: food, family, community, and connection.

Maybe you’d even like to create an ethical livelihood rooted in sound principles of sustainability.

has the time come?

seize the moment & surrender your worry

now is your time to SERVE

If you’re like most aspiring villagers, you probably find yourself feeling overwhelmed at the current paradigm shifts going on in the world. It may have caught you off guard – working a job that doesn’t fulfill you, feeding your family food that doesn’t nourish them, or stalling on the next stage of development because you’re not quite sure how to go about it even though you know in every ounce of your being that simplicity and sustainability are the way of the future.

Well, now is the time to seize the moment, surrender your worry, and SERVE.

You know you want to increase your self-sufficiency. But you feel paralyzed. It seems impossible to find the time or know the right place to start. You may have had chickens in the past and they all got eaten by raccoons or coyotes and it feels like too much work to do it all over again just for a few eggs. Maybe you’ve joined a forum to get feedback and build a sense of community. Maybe you even have a real live farm, but are exhausted and overwhelmed. Despite your best intentions, you’re still feeling discouraged, or stuck, or isolated.

we’re here to help . . .

guess what? It doesn't have to be that way.

garlic close up

Imagine waking up early to the sound of roosters crowing and doves cooing. You put on the kettle and pop a log on the fire before heading out for morning chores. No need for special “earthing” equipment. No, your life is as grounding as it gets. You greet the guardian dogs and feed the goats – a chicken named Bella follows you while you water the garden. Yes, you know where your food comes from . . . this garden, these creatures, that neighbor.

WHAT IF A FEW FUNDAMENTAL SHIFTS COULD:

we've done it and so can YOU!

I was born a city girl. My mother tells the story of when she asked me where orange juice comes from and I said, “You squeeze the can.” Ya. I get the, not knowing the first thing, feeling well.

When, as an adult, I became interested in Food and Farming, my family and I were convinced that we needed to find a way to move to the country before we could have a farm. We would pore over Self-Sufficiency books for hours dreaming of the day when we could escape and begin our country farmer’s dream.

BUT THEN WE REALIZED WE COULD START RIGHT IN OUR OWN BACKYARD.

As we got started, we quickly realized that much of the “organic farming” information and education is complicated and overwhelming. Tracking zones, researching companion plants, soil testing etc. was just too much for us while raising 2 young children. We also found a lot of the sustainability gurus were quite alarmist. We don’t want to live in fear of the end of the world. We want to live filled with hope and inspiration. We want connection and joy.

SO, WE SET OUT TO FIND OUR OWN WAY.

And now we make our way as farmer-artist-healers and cultural creatives. We are able to stay home with our kids and have manifested a world where hundreds of people come each season to experience the magic of Lazy-Lady Living in person. We did this perfectly well for years on our city lot, and now on our 65 acre mountain retreat in rural New Mexico in 2020 where we are learning about living, farming, and homesteading out of the city.

WE’VE LEARNED SO MUCH IN OUR RURAL ACREAGE

We learned all the downsides of tending a large area, from dealing with predators and livestock guardians, to adjusting to a new climate and remaining confident in our foundational principles and philosophy, to navigating small town politics and making social repair. We’ve been through so much these last few years!

We want to share this all with you so you can use your own cultural creativity and whatever piece of earth you inhabit to make a better world for yourself, your family, and your community.

WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU MAKE THAT DREAM A REALITY.

that’s why we created the

 lazy-lady living PROGRAM

FOOD :: FARMING :: EARTH MEDICINE :: FOOD SECURITY :: COMMUNITY CEREMONY :: HEALING :: TRAUMA HEALING :: LINEAGE REPAIR :: RIGHT LIVELIHOOD :: SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY

Lazy-Lady Living is different than all the other homesteading and/or permaculture programs available out there. It’s more than a how-to-homestead course, or a basic Permaculture Design Course. Lazy-Lady Living is all that, AND it is a soulful, social and spiritual practice as well. Here’s what makes it unique:

AN INTEGRATED APPROACH

We have taken our knowledge of Permaculture Design Principles and combined it with our experience as urban farmers over the last 15 years as well as with Nutritional Therapy and Traditional, Sacred & Healing Foods, and Indigenous land use practices.

WHAT YOU NEED IS INSPIRATION

You want to get connected to your food, its production, preparation, and its sharing. You dream of village harmony, rhythm, and connection. You crave traditional wisdom, the real thing: food, family, community, and connection.

NOT ANOTHER LIST OF TO-DOS

You need balance and a system for self-sufficiency that includes others. You need a model that reduces work and expands your sense of peace and harmony, that promotes healing and your pursuit of the Good Life.

FREEDOM FROM HOW-TO OVERWHELM

Universally, the Permaculture Design Course is philosophical and design-oriented and actually avoids offering too much situation specific how-to information. Instead, it focuses on foundational philosophy and principles that can be applied anywhere in any situation to make it doable without any how-to guidelines.

TAKE YOUR PROPER PLACE

Embrace your true place equally alongside all things rather than a separate thinking force. There are no shortcuts to true sustainability. Nothing short of a paradigm shift is necessary and part of that is getting away from rules and “the right way” and moving toward experimentation and connection to nature.

HOLISTIC HOMESTEADING :: PERMACULTURE FOR THE SOULFUL

Getting connected to the land sounds beautiful. The truth is when you start living close tot he earth, you begin to detox your system. As you clear and cleanse,. you begin feel a shift in values and realize that spiritual dimension is essential. If you already have a connection to your spiritual life, getting connected to the land will ground your spiritual practice like nothing else.

Even if you’re a rank beginner, a depressed veteran looking for fresh inspiration, don’t have a scrap of land or are an overwhelmed mama just trying to hold it together, Lazy-Lady Living will help you get some perspective and make a realistic and inspirational plan.

My family has been urban, and not-so-urban, farming and immersing ourselves in traditional foods for nearly 20 years and this course includes the philosophy behind it all. We have specifically designed Lazy-Lady Living to take the stress and overwhelm out of urban and rural homesteading.

That’s the LAZY part. We strive to do as little work as is possible for the greatest benefit and that is what the program is all about – making your life simpler, easier, lazier.

You are just a few clicks away from starting, or streamlining, the holistic homestead of your dreams!

WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU MAKE THAT DREAM A REALITY.

what others are saying!

Blown Away!

Lazy Lady Living surpassed my expectations. I knew it was about permaculture but I was blown away by the amount of content as well as the depth of the topics that we covered.

My biggest benefits from the course are knowledge of nature-based ‘gardening’ for optimal output with less effort while being better for the environment, your health, etc. and knowledge of home-death. I have also been able to benefit by learning more and affirming deeper the concept of and desire to move towards a gift-economy and practicing without licensure.

Lazy Lady Living is a very well-rounded program that touches base on a lot of things that I feel a typical permaculture program wouldn’t or may not. I really liked the over-all set-up, as well as the ease of watching the videos and that it was a distance learning course. The ease of the online program was quite beneficial and the price was manageable compared to others. I would recommend Lazy Lady Living to friends and colleagues.

Deepening my Spiritual Pracice . . .

I loved that Lazy-Lady Living gave me that extra push in deepening my spiritual practice. At the time I enrolled, it was a bit of a splurge for me.

When I first looked at the Lazy-Lady Living program, it seemed like a nice approach to living. Right up my alley. In hindsight I realize the coursework delved more deeply than I expected. I go back to things like Sacred Slaughter, better options for how to deal with death and permaculture in general. Oh, and slow business.

I would absolutely recommend Lazy-Lady Living to friends and colleagues. Eight weeks is a short time given how much the course contains. The beauty is one can go and look at it afterward. This way I can spend as much time as I need to understand permaculture and to integrate it in my spiritual practice.

If you join the program, you’re in for a delicious treat. I am humbled by the generosity and wealth of information that Krista shares in LLL

– Martha Apaza

Longing for Connection

Lazy-Lady Living exposed me to so many resources and so much material, very content rich!

Before I enrolled, I just knew I was drawn to it. It tapped into that longing for connection to the source of everything, which is so prevalent now. We can see everywhere on Instagram and Pinterest that women, in particular (but not exclusively), are searching for it — the rise of the Sacred Feminine!

I just think this longing, and need, is growing in our culture. I really benefited from all the content, and also the affirmation from being a part of a larger community.

I recommend Lazy-Lady Living to friends and colleagues because it gives a real experience of what permaculture is all about.

– Mary Kingsley

New and Profound Ideas

I loved Lazy-Lady Living. It presented me with new and profound ideas that I had not thought of before. The class was so much more than about agriculture, permaculture and biodynamics. It was about life and death, celebration, working with sorrow, grief, and conflict. Lazy-Lady Living helped me fill in gaps and deepen understandings.

Overall, I have a renewed appreciation for the life force/Universe that guides us all, and a deeper trust in myself and my own inner wisdom. Krista brings herself into her work in a way that is genuine and comforting, while still being a strong and effective guide. I am so deeply grateful for the chance to rewrite many of my life’s most challenging stories as time progresses. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you!

Spend a lifetime Contemplating

Lazy-Lady Living has inspired me to see new potentials in what I can create in my small yard in the city and I am eager to learn more..

I want to listen to each module at least three times before I move on to the next one. The material is so deep that I think one could spend a lifetime contemplating the information and there would still be more to learn.

I would recommend Lazy-Lady Living because I would like to live in a world where every being could learn the concepts of permaculture. Essentially, it reveals how preciously intertwined we all are.

When one can really feel how interconnected one is to the rest of the Universe, it becomes easier to make choices that will benefit the Whole.

– Julie Shiprack

Very Insightful . . .

The topics in Lazy-Lady Living were very insightful, concise, and cover the essential learning points. Also they are rather informal as so they feel more like a chat/coaching rather than formalized training.

Before starting Lazy-Lady Living, I didn’t know what to expect. I work for a large corporation and am still far from a transition into a life closer to nature. I was looking for the kind of guidance, vision and inspiration that would allow me to take a step further towards a more sensible way of life and I got it.

The biggest benefits of the course for me were: a deeper understanding of the spiritual side of farming (Rudolf Steiner and the trauma concepts), a grasp of permaculture and biodynamic agriculture, and aim to apply it to my (small) backyard garden, and an awareness of life cycles (birth and death, green burials). I’ll need lots of time to digest and assimilate this course!

what is it worth to YOU?

Most Permaculture Design Courses cost between $2000 and $3000 plus travel and accommodation costs ranging from $200 to $3000 and they don’t include many of the unique LLL aspects of Cultural Repair. In comparison Lazy-Lady Living is a bargain.

We have been doing this for a long-a@$ time and want to help you cut to the quick and get your inner farmer released so you can start changing the world one garden, one choice, one family, one neighborhood at a time!

Let’s do it!

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

frequently asked questions

The Lazy-Lady Living Salon starts as soon as you sign-up. You will be guided into the private members-only area where you will be able to view all our salons and access yours! LLL starts with an orientation week where you get prepared to delve into week one!

Tierra Soul is a private membership circle and all our salons are offered under this umbrella in the private domain. Want to learn more about the private domain? There is a brand new lesson in Week 8 all about it!

In general Lazy-Lady Living aims to avoid how-to overwhelm by sharing principles & philosophies rather than a long list of rules, tips and tricks. That way, you will have a clear mind and open heart ready to receive guidance and vision solutions.

Lazy-Lady Living is also different from other homesteading and permaculture programs in its inclusion of, and emphasis on, spiritual dimensions and social/cultural repair.

The Lazy-Lady Living Salon is also offered 100% online so you can complete it without leaving your own “salon.” This makes it accessible to more people than a live program could and having the LLL material under your belt will be indispensible for all your hands-on endeavors.

If you’d like to join Tierra Soul for a hands-on or live experience, check-out our farm-stays and live events!

The Lazy-Lady Living Salon videos take about 1-2 hours/week to view. You will have access to the program for its lifetime. There are also recommended readings and LLL Workbook assignments, but these are not mandatory – unless you choose to add the Permaculture Design Certificate in which case the entire program will take at least 72 hours and you have one year to complete it. Though the Salon is organized by week, you are welcome to work your way through it at your own pace. Many of our past participants say they visit the material over and ver again.

Lazy-Lady Living does not include a Permaculture Design Certificate. However, you are welcome to add this option for $299 if you’d like. If you do add it, there will be added work equivalent to a minimum of 72 hours. There will an opportunity to add this during your donation check-out as well as after you’ve started the program. There is no rush – you can add it anytime!

All the members of the Arias family have been farming for nearly 20 years. Mama & Papa Soul have been involved in the real food movement for even longer and we have been certified as Permaculture Designers for close to 15 years. Our kids were brought up with goats and gardens, traditional foods and earth medicine. Like fish in water they have learned to live the teachings and are overjoyed to join the teaching team as they come of age.

Our Guarantee. Try LLL for up to 30 days (from your first day of enrollment), do all the homework, and if it’s not for you for any reason, we will refund your money in full. Our commitment is to empower the homesteader in you wherever you are.

If after having participated fully in the Program and completed all Program homework assignments for 30 days, you did not receive value at least equal to your investment, send us your completed Program homework and a note stating why you feel it was not valuable to you, and we’ll refund 100% of your money.

To be eligible for a refund, you must submit to us your completed Program homework and your statement why the Program did not deliver you value no later than 11:59 pm 30 days after the program begins.

We end with a lesson in making soap from traditional fats right in your very own kitchen!

Week 6 is full of practical applications of lazy-lady principles and we will be available to support you in implementing them!

energy, water & recycling

lazy-lady living week seven

In Week 7 we continue with the nitty gritty, but now in the realm of energy, water and waste. We will look at energy cycling and solar power. Move into water catchment, ponds, dams, and waste water systems.

We’ll also take a look at waste and recycling and take an exciting tour of Natural Building!

ethical business & cultural creativity

lazy-lady living week eight

In Week 8, the final week of Lazy-Lady Living, we shift gears a little and delve into the world of social enterprise. We take a sober look at Ethical Business, Sacred Economics and Honest Banking.

We will then move into the SLOW Living movement and consider what a new work ethic would mean for the world.

We end with an inspiring call to Cultural Creativity!

This is our last week of Lazy-Lady Living program content, but stay tuned for some cool bonuses!
