When beginning with goats, we had to puzzle through many problems, usually on our own. It's hard to start something new, especially when it involves being responsible for the lives of others. As a family, we've been raising goats for 17 years. In 2020, Fia took on the role of primary goat caregiver. Since then, our herd has grown from 3 to 30 and she's spent endless hours learning with, from and for them - from grazing/forage needs to breeding, from health to kidding and butchering. You name it. She's done it. And she wants to share it all with you!

WEEK 1 :: Milk, Meat & Fiber
WHAT KIND OF GOAT DO YOU NEED? WE WILL DISCUSS DIFFERENT CATEGORIES AND BREEDS OF GOATS AND HOW YOU CAN GO ABOUT DECIDING WHAT'S JUST RIGHT FOR YOUR HOMESTEAD AND FAMILY.
Week 2 :: Acquiring goats
SEARCHING OUT GOOD GOATS CAN BE A CHALLENGE, BUT DON'T WORRY - WE'RE HERE TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE PROCESS OF PREPARING FOR, FINDING, AND BRINGING HOME YOUR NEW ADDITIONS.
Week 3 :: Breeding, Pregnancy, Kidding
NOW IT'S TIME TO LEARN ALL ABOUT SUPPORTING YOUR HERD THROUGH reproduction. FROM FINDING THE RIGHT BUCKS FOR YOUR DOES, TO RECOGNIZING complications AND LOVING ON A MAMA IN LABOR, WE'LL COVER IT ALL.
Week 4 :: Milking and Making
ONCE DAIRY DOES HAVE BABIES (KIDS), IT'S TIME FOR MILKING. HERE WE'LL TALK ABOUT HOW TO HAND MILK, TRAIN AND FEED A DOE IN MILK, CARE FOR RAW MILK, HOW A GOAT'S LACTATION WORKS, AND THE BASICS OF MAKING GOAT MILK GOODIES
Week 5 :: Holistic herd health
HAVING HEALTHY GOATS IS essential. WE WANT TO SHOW YOU HOW WE MAINTAIN OUR HERD'S HEALTH WITHOUT ANY TOXIC INPUTS OR interventionS AND RAISE THE MOST vigorous, HAPPY GOATS WE CAN.
Week 6 :: grazing management
IN THE LAST SECTION OF GAIA'S GOATS, WE'LL GET INTO ONE OF MY FAVORITE TOPICS - GRAZING/BROWSING. GOAT'S ARE AMAZING AT IMPROVING LAND AND HARDY ENOUGH TO LIVE ON PASTURE, IN WOODLAND, OR MOUNTAINS.
